Storm outages – Wednesday 26 November 3:00pm
Endeavour Energy emergency crews are responding to power outages affecting 57,000 homes and businesses following today’s intense lightning and windstorms, amidst total fire ban conditions.
The widespread, damaging storms caused outages across our network including large parts of Western Sydney with damage centred around Blacktown, Rooty Hill, Doonside and Kings Park.
We have more than 480 reports of dangerous electrical incidents including fallen power lines due to the extremely high winds.
Our crews are coordinating in the field to restore power as quickly and as safely as possible and will prioritise public safety by ‘making safe’ fallen power lines across the network before rebuilding the damaged network.
Due to the total fire ban restrictions our automatic protection systems are switched off to limit the risk of the network starting bushfires. This means customers should plan for extended restoration times with many likely to be without power overnight.
Customers who need power for home medical equipment should check their battery supply and consider acting on their back up plan. As we work to recover normal service levels, please be patient if you are without power and make plans according to your own circumstances.
Customers are reminded to stay at least eight metres away from downed power lines and call 131 00 to report them. If you need to venture outside, be especially careful of where trees, branches or debris may hide fallen powerlines and damaged electrical equipment.
Our crews will be working into tonight to make the damaged areas of the network safe, with fresh crews due to assist repair efforts tomorrow. around the clock to restore power.
The next update will be provided at 5pm.
Customer safety
- Treat all powerlines as 'live' and dangerous by keeping at least 8m clear of them. Never drive across fallen powerlines
- Avoid all contact with wires that are hanging low, or on the ground or tangled in trees
- If using portable generators, please ensure they are located outside of your home and well away from open windows to avoid deadly exhaust fumes entering your home
- Generators should never be connected to switchboards unless there is an isolation switch installed by a licensed electrician. This is to avoid sending electricity back up powerlines and making isolated parts of the network dangerous for workers and the broader community.
