Storm outages – Thursday 27 November 7:00am
Endeavour Energy has cancelled all planned maintenance today and will relocate crews from the South Coast to support its major repair efforts across many Western Sydney suburbs today.
Overnight, emergency crews patrolled and made safe damaged overhead power lines and power poles after large parts of its overhead network were lashed by yesterday’s wild windstorm. Power was safely restored to about 27,000 customers overnight.
32,000 customers remain without power this morning, with the worst affected areas being the suburbs of Blacktown, Doonside, Seven Hills, Quakers Hill, Cambridge Park and Wetherill Park and the suburbs of Mt Druitt and the Hawkesbury.
At the height of the short, intense storm, more than 61,000 customers were without power after 100kmh winds battered the area.
We have opened storm centres to coordinate crews across the area and to tackle more than 750 reported electrical hazards, the highest number reported in the last decade.
Given continuing Total Fire Ban conditions today, Endeavour Energy has its network set to avoid the risk of the network sparking bushfires. This means crews need to patrol power lines after they are repaired before they can be safely restored.
Endeavour Energy would like to thank our customers for their continued patience and understanding as our crews work to restore power as quickly and as safely as possible. We continue to advise customers to exercise caution and to stay at least eight metres away from fallen powerlines and call 131 003 to report them.
We have also advised life support customers to act on their emergency back up plans and encourage them to make arrangements that suit their personal circumstances.
Customer safety
- Treat all powerlines as 'live' and dangerous by keeping at least 8m clear of them. Never drive across fallen powerlines
- Avoid all contact with wires that are hanging low, or on the ground or tangled in trees
- If using portable generators, please ensure they are located outside of your home and well away from open windows to avoid deadly exhaust fumes entering your home
- Generators should never be connected to switchboards unless there is an isolation switch installed by a licensed electrician. This is to avoid sending electricity back up powerlines and making isolated parts of the network dangerous for workers and the broader community.
