Power outage update – Friday 28 November 7:00am
- Endeavour Energy crews worked overnight, with power restored to a further 9,000 customers
- 5,670 customers remain without power
Endeavour Energy crews worked throughout the night to restore power to a further 9,000 customers following Wednesday’s intense storm that caused significant damage to the network.
Overnight efforts concentrated on major repair works across Western Sydney, the Hills District, Hawkesbury and surrounds, South-West Sydney and Kandos and Bylong.
Todays’ focus is to restore power to 5,670 customers located in four main areas:
- Blacktown, Marayong, Doonside, Seven Hills, Rooty Hill, Lalor Park, Kings Park. This area felt the brunt of ferocious winds and has been severely damaged with multiple repair sites.
- Ermington, Telopea, Carlingford, Epping, Northmead
- Baulkham Hills, Castle Hills, Winston Hills
- The Hawkesbury including Maroota, lower Macdonald, Wiseman’s Ferry and lower Portland.
Some of the more complex repairs in hard to access areas in the Hawkesbury may extend overnight.
Additional crews from the South Coast and Blue Mountains are continuing to support local teams as we tackle complex jobs requiring extensive repair work. Storm centres established across the region are coordinating these efforts to ensure safe and efficient restoration.
At the peak of the short but intense storm, more than 70,000 customers were without power after winds exceeding 100 km/h battered the area, resulting in over 750 reported electrical hazards. Power has now been safely restored to more than 65,000 customers.
We thank our customers for their patience and understanding as crews work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible in today’s hot conditions.
We continue to advise customers to exercise caution and to stay at least eight metres away from fallen powerlines and call 131 003 immediately to report them.
We continue to advise life support customers to act on their emergency back up plans and encourage them to make arrangements that suit their personal circumstances.
Customer safety
- Treat all powerlines as 'live' and dangerous by keeping at least 8m clear of them. Never drive across fallen powerlines
- Avoid all contact with wires that are hanging low, or on the ground or tangled in trees
- If using portable generators, please ensure they are located outside of your home and well away from open windows to avoid deadly exhaust fumes entering your home
- Generators should never be connected to switchboards unless there is an isolation switch installed by a licensed electrician. This is to avoid sending electricity back up powerlines and making isolated parts of the network dangerous for workers and the broader community.
