Power outage update – Friday 28 November 6:30pm
Endeavour Energy crews have continued work throughout day to repair significant damage across the electricity network and have now restored power to the majority of the 70,000 customers impacted by Wednesday’s intense and damaging storms.
As at 6.30pm, there are around 1,100 customers without power, with the majority expected to be back on tonight; and the remainder by tomorrow morning.
The day’s efforts concentrated on removing trees, repairing lines and restoring power to customers in Blacktown, Marayong, Doonside, Seven Hills, Rooty Hill, Lalor Park and Kings Park which were severely damaged by the 120km/hour winds and cyclone conditions that battered the area. At its peak, the storm resulted in 750 reported electrical hazards.
Endeavour Energy teams are now contacting our remaining 300 customers, where we have contact numbers, in Blacktown and customers located in hard-to-reach areas of the Hawkesbury and far west who are expected to remain without power tonight.
We thank our customers for their continued patience and understanding in today’s heat and advise our life support customers in the remaining affected areas to act on their emergency back up plans and make arrangements that suit their personal circumstances.
Customer safety
- Treat all powerlines as 'live' and dangerous by keeping at least 8m clear of them. Never drive across fallen powerlines
- Avoid all contact with wires that are hanging low, or on the ground or tangled in trees
- If using portable generators, please ensure they are located outside of your home and well away from open windows to avoid deadly exhaust fumes entering your home
- Generators should never be connected to switchboards unless there is an isolation switch installed by a licensed electrician. This is to avoid sending electricity back up powerlines and making isolated parts of the network dangerous for workers and the broader community.
