Menangle Park Mobile Zone Substation & Underground Transmission Line Connection

Overview

Works will include:

  • site preparation including batters, retaining walls and access
  • construction of the new interim mobile zone substation
  • establishing easements for the new underground electricity line with relevant property owners
  • trenching, installation of underground cable ducts and cables from Macarthur Bulk Supply Point to the zone substation – a distance of 1.8 km
  • security fencing

The need

The Menangle Park urban development area, south of the Campbelltown town centre, is planned to grow to 4,000 residential lots, a town centre, employment lands and commercial areas.

The zone substation will meet the initial forecast electricity network load demand and will also supply the existing Menangle Park Village, the Menangle Park Raceway and the surrounding areas.

It will ensure a safe and reliable electricity supply to the area.

The location

The zone substation site is located north of Fitzpatrick Street, Menangle Park adjacent to the rail corridor.

The electricity line will run underground from Macarthur Bulk Supply Point, which is 1.8km north east of the substation site.

Review of Environmental Factors

Endeavour Energy, as the determining authority, approved the project following a robust assessment of project criteria which has ultimately achieved the best balance of financial, technical, community and environmental considerations.

When at the planning stage, the proposed project was subject to a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) approval under Part 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, 1979.

The REF included comprehensive assessments on noise, visual amenity, flora, fauna, heritage and archaeology, traffic and bushfire risk associated with the proposed works. Endeavour Energy sought community feedback on a draft REF on the proposed project. All comments received were considered/incorporated into the final REF.

Following this process, a Notice of Determination was issued which approved the construction of the zone substation subject to several construction and environmental management criteria that must be met.

Construction is expected to commence by mid-2020.

Community correspondence

Stakeholders and residents will be notified prior to the start of construction.
