How essential network maintenance may impact local communities

To ensure the safe, sustainable, reliable, and affordable supply of electricity to your property and community, essential planned repairs and upgrades to the electricity network must be conducted at regular intervals.

While these activities may not always result in power interruptions, they could impact you in other ways. If you have recently received an SMS alert about upcoming work activities in your area, you can find a more detailed explanation of these activities here.

Increased noise levels

This is often due to the use of large machinery and tools required for activities like cutting, drilling, excavation or moving bulky items. These sounds can be disruptive and we're grateful for your understanding. Our teams seek to limit noise levels where possible and schedule loud work tasks during suitable hours whenever feasible.

Night time work

Night work can cause disruptions where bright lights may shine onto premises and our works can disrupt typical noise levels. Night time operations are sometimes critical to maintain the safety of our people and the public or prevent even greater disruption to local traffic or business operations. In such instances, we work hard to minimise inconvenience to local residents and communities while ensuring essential maintenance and upgrades are completed in an efficient way.

Excavation

Excavations are necessary for many of our projects. This can involve noise from heavy machinery, short-term disruptions to traffic flow, temporary fencing for public safety, or changes to the landscape in and around the work area. Dust and debris can also be generated when excavating. We make every effort to minimise these impacts and restore the area to its original condition upon completion of our work.

Reduced street parking

Large trucks, plant and equipment is often required to construct and maintain electricity infrastructure. Regrettably we may have no other option than to  park across driveways to safely complete the work required. If this impacts you, please talk to our crew when they arrive if you need access to your vehicle so they can work with you on suitable access times.

We may be working in your street on days scheduled for your bin pickup. If possible, please try to place bins in a location where they can still be easily collected or talk to our crew regarding alternative arrangements.

Road closures

To maintain the safety of our people and the public, we may need to close public roads and footpaths. This typically occurs  when we are using large trucks, installing equipment or digging trenches, which makes it unsafe for pedestrians and vehicles to pass. Where this is necessary, we employ traffic management to keep everyone safe and minimise disruption. Please call us on 131 003 should you have questions or concerns at these times.

Road closures can also modify bus routes when we are working so please remember to stay updated about any potential changes to your travel arrangements.

Home medical equipment

If you rely on continuous supply of power for medical equipment, please have your back-up plan ready to implement in case of a power outage. If you do experience a power interruption during this time, please contact us immediately on 131 003.
