Power injection for Eastern Creek

23-Feb-2007

The Sydney suburb synonymous with motor sport, Eastern Creek, is to get a power boost of a different kind with the construction of a $13.8 million zone substation, Energy Minister Joe Tripodi said today.

Turning the sod today at the site of the new Integral Energy facility, Mr Tripodi said the planned substation was great news for Western Sydney industry.

“The substation will be built within a new industrial estate meaning our growing businesses will continue to have access to power when and where they need it,” Mr Tripodi said.

“It will help meet the needs of the major industrial customers who are moving west.

“The proximity of the M7 and the M4 is promoting strong development in this part of Sydney.

“The substation will ensure a safe and reliable power supply for Eastern Creek’s developing industrial area, which will include a refrigeration plant for a large Australian food retailer.

“This $13.8 million investment on energy infrastructure in Eastern Creek will complement further upgrades to the electricity network in the Blacktown district,” he said.

Mr Tripodi said the zone substation is part of the Iemma Government’s commitment to continued record investment in energy infrastructure across NSW.

“This year alone we’re investing $2.3 billion across the State upgrading and expanding electricity infrastructure,” Mr Tripodi said.

The substation is due to be completed by the end of the year.
