Life Support Customer Advice

Endeavour Energy recognises that some customers have medical needs that require the use of special equipment to sustain their health and well being. These customers should be aware that they may need to take special precautions regarding their electricity supply. The following information is provided to assist people who use special health equipment at home.

 

1. While Endeavour Energy aims to provide a safe and reliable supply, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted supply to any customer, including life support customers.

 

2. In an unplanned outage, the nature of the event will often mean that we are unable to guarantee a restoration time for Life Support customers.

 

3. If you use special equipment powered by electricity, you should plan for the possibility of an outage or 'blackout'. Where even short outages represent a risk, Endeavour Energy recommends you discuss options such as back up generators or batteries with your doctor.

 

4. You should consider the following as part of your plan:

 

        a. What back up is built into the LIfe Support Equipment that you have?

 

        b. When was the last time that you checked the battery back-up? 

            Do you know how often should it be checked?

 

        c. What other household items, needed in an emergency, will not work during an outage?

            For example your telephone.

 

        d. Who would you call in an emergency?. 

            Do you know a neighbour that could call in on you if the power goes out?.

 

5. The information supplied to Endeavour Energy by retailers will provide acknowledgement of an approved Life Support Rebate. This does not provide the level of information to allow Endeavour Energy to determine which customers have systems that require a higher than normal supply reliability. Customers who have registered a life support system with their retailer should also contact their Network Operator to provide details of the nature of the life support requirements.
