The effects of climate change

Climate change has direct impacts on electricity infrastructure. Research to date suggests the following climate changes are likely to impact electricity infrastructure:

  • Increasing temperatures,
  • Sea level rise,
  • More variable rainfall,
  • Increased storminess and more extreme weather.

These physical climate changes have the following perceived risks to electricity infrastructure in NSW;

  • Bushfires,
  • Severe thunderstorms,
  • Drought,
  • Changes in generation mix, and
  • Changes in peak demand.
